Your data, in plain English
I’m a one-van handyman business, and I collect the minimum I need to reply to you, do the job, and invoice it. This page explains what that is and what I do with it. It’s written to meet UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, and to be readable.
Who I am
Call Mr Fix It Services Ltd (trading as Mr Fix It), company number 17428714, registered office Mornington Crescent, Hounslow, England, TW5 9SU. I’m the data controller for the information described here. Contact: hello@callmrfixit.co.uk or 07505 012233.
What I collect, and why
- When you contact me (WhatsApp, call, email or the website form): your name, phone number, email, address or postcode, photos of the job, and what you’ve told me about it. Used to quote, book and do the work. Lawful basis: taking steps at your request before a contract, and then performing it.
- When I do a job: before-and-after photos of the work (not of you or your home beyond the job area), invoice details, and payment records. Used for the invoice, for my accounts, and — with your permission — for the gallery. Lawful basis: contract and legal obligation (HMRC record-keeping); consent for gallery use.
- Landlords and agents: tenant contact details you pass me so I can arrange access. Used only for that job. Lawful basis: legitimate interests — yours and the tenant’s — in getting the repair done.
- Website: basic analytics (pages visited, device type, rough location by IP) via Google Analytics with IP anonymisation, only if you accept analytics cookies in the banner. Lawful basis: consent.
What I don’t do
- I don’t sell, rent or share your details with anyone for marketing.
- I don’t send marketing emails or texts. If you hear from me, it’s about your job.
- I don’t publish photos that identify you or your home without asking first.
Who sees it
Me. Beyond that, only the services I need to run the business: my accountant and accounting software (invoices), my phone and email providers, WhatsApp (Meta) for messages you send that way, and Google (analytics, if you consent). If a job needs a certified engineer (gas, notifiable electrics) and you ask me to recommend one, I’ll only pass on your details with your go-ahead.
How long I keep it
- Enquiries that don’t become jobs: deleted within 12 months.
- Job records and invoices: 6 years, as HMRC requires.
- WhatsApp threads: cleared periodically; job photos kept with the job record.
- Gallery photos: until you ask me to remove them.
Your rights
You can ask me what I hold about you, ask me to correct or delete it, object to or restrict how I use it, or ask for a copy to take elsewhere. Email hello@callmrfixit.co.uk and I’ll respond within a month. If you’re unhappy with how I’ve handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
Cookies
The site sets essential cookies to work, and analytics cookies only if you accept them in the banner. You can change your mind at any time via the cookie settings link in the footer.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Nothing here will ever change to let me do the things listed under “What I don’t do”.
