Doors that close. Shelves that hold. Joints that stay shut.
Most carpentry problems in a West London home are small and maddening: the door that’s rubbed a groove in the carpet, the floorboard that announces you to the whole house, the alcove crying out for shelves. That’s my kind of carpentry — measured twice, fitted once, finished properly.
I’m not a site chippy who wants a loft conversion. I’m the carpenter for the jobs that make your home work day to day, quoted per job so you know the number before I unpack a saw.

Measured like it matters
- Scribed to your walls, not a spirit-level fantasy.West London walls aren’t straight. Good carpentry follows the room so the eye reads it as straight.
- Doors get the full job.Eased, yes — but also sealed on the planed edge so they don’t drink moisture and stick again by October.
- Matching profiles, not ‘close enough’.Skirting and architrave matched to what your house already has, even on period profiles.
- Dust management built in.Sheets down, extraction on the saw where possible, hoover before I go.

Carpentry questions
How much does it cost to hang an internal door?
From £110 for a standard internal door you’ve supplied: trimmed to the frame, hinges recessed, latch and handles fitted. Fire doors and period frames I’ll quote from a photo.
Can you fix a door that sticks without replacing it?
Nearly always. Most sticking doors need easing and resealing, or the hinges packing — from £60 and done within the visit.
Do you build fitted or alcove shelving?
Yes — it’s one of my favourite jobs. Send the alcove measurements and a photo, tell me what needs to sit on the shelves, and I’ll quote fixed, floating or cupboard-based options.
Can you match my Victorian skirting?
Usually — standard period profiles like torus, ogee and lambs tongue are stocked locally, and unusual ones can be run to order. I’ll match it before I quote.
Do you do big carpentry — decking, lofts, kitchens?
No, and I won’t pretend to. Structural work, full kitchens and decking builds belong with a specialist. Repairs and adjustments to any of them, yes.
Got a door with a grudge?
Photo of the door, the gap or the alcove — I’ll come back with a straight price.
